Incoming Presidential Address
Presented at the 2025 Annual Conference

To Indiana’s most RAD healthcare professionals,
First, let me just say— what an incredible honor it is to begin my term as the incoming President of the Indiana Society of Radiologic Sciences. There are a lot of students becoming involved now in the ISRT, which is absolutely amazing. Thinking back to when I was a student or heck, even just a couple years ago that I’d be stepping into this role, I probably would give a great big ‘ol belly laugh and said ‘you absolutely have the wrong gal!’ But here we are.. It is funny how things work out, isn’t it? And let me tell you colleagues and friends, I truly couldn’t be more humbled, grateful, and excited to serve.

Before I go any further, I want to thank Zach for his leadership and his example. He has guided this organization with passion, integrity, and a steady hand, and I know I have some big shoes to fill. Literally. Zach, you made this role look easy—but I have a feeling I’m about to find out it’s a lot like positioning a trauma patient with bilateral proximal hip compound fractures.. You made it look smooth and effortless, but behind the scenes I am sure lots of hard work, patience, and creative problem-solving were involved, So, thank you Zach for your service and leadership.

To the board, committee members, volunteers, all the amazing vendors who help sponsor our organization, educators, and every technologist and student involved in this profession—thank you. This Society is not just about one person, or even just one group. It’s about all of us – all that proudly earned their R.T. after their name from all the way up to the Region to all the way down to the toe of our Hoosier state’s boot. It is all of us coming together to lift each other up, to advance our profession, and to ensure our patients get the very best care possible every single day. They deserve the best care, and you and I are more than capable to rise to that expectation and serve our communities with grace, kindness, empathy, and competence and confidence.

Students—you inspire us. You remind us why we fell in love with this field in the first place. You challenge us to stay sharp and to keep learning, and you carry the future of radiologic sciences in Indiana. I see your energy, your excitement, and —even your nerves—and I want you to know, we’ve all been there. And we are rooting for you every step of the way.

To my fellow technologists—you are the face and hands of our profession. You’re the reason patients leave our exam rooms leaving with hope, comfort and reassurance.

Sometimes people know we are x-ray techs, imaging professionals and radiation therapists by us hanging out in the dark, see how proudly wear our radiation badges and have those gooey lead markers always handy. But I hope you all know how much more our calling is. You and I also represent something much larger—the compassion, skill, and professionalism of radiology as a whole. We are really in this together.. All of us to move our profession forward and to be seen. It takes so much connection and partnership. Don't lose sight of that.

I am so happy Zach, Mary Allen, and Paige stepped up and put this year’s annual conference on at the zoo. It’s so important we continue to come together year and after, and I look forward to ensuring our annual conference and our society continues to grow.
If we all rally together to believe we can leave our mark on the medical profession and in our communities, we will truly make a difference. Like a ripple effect. Kindness and compassion and the energy we bring to our personal and professional lives easily ripple to our surroundings and others around us.

As I step into this role, my promise is simple: I will listen, I will serve, and I will do my very best to represent you. Hey.. Honestly I am just a normal tech and radiation therapist that wants to keep this society strong for our beloved Hoosier state. I don’t have all the answers.. and I am telling you all right now that I am not going to be perfect in this role. But what I do have is a deep commitment to working alongside all of you to push our profession forward, to support our students, and to keep this Society strong by doing what's best for the patients in our surrounding communities. And maybe most importantly—I want us to enjoy the journey together. Because yes, our work is serious and meaningful, but it’s also filled with those lighthearted moments only we can truly appreciate... that we find quite “humerus.” Like when a patient asks if the lead apron is going to “make them radioactive,” or when the portable machine goes rogue with beeps and alarms on the ICU at 3 a.m and you can’t figure out how to make it stop beeping, so you just hit the emergency stop. And of course, the beautiful relationships we have with our team members and colleagues. Inside jokes and memories that make us laugh out loud that only a small group of people lucky enough to have forever.

So, let’s carry forward with gratitude, with passion, with laughter, and with a shared commitment to excellence. I’m honored to serve you, and I cannot wait to see what this next year brings for all of us and for the Indiana Society of Radiologic Sciences.
Remember to RADIATE positivity, be kind, and stay RAD.

Thank you.
Morgan J Hinshaw, 2025-2026 ISRT President
